The Gewa Bio violin case is truly one-of-a-kind. It’s the only violin case made from an organic flax shell. Thanks to its vibrant colors, large sheet music pouch, and affordability, it has quickly become a favorite among young musicians.
At under $200, it’s one of the best violin cases you can find!
Never heard of a flax shell violin case? Neither had we! So, we spoke to the team at Gewa to learn why they chose this material to protect violins.
An organic flax shell is crafted from flax fibers that are processed into a composite or hardened shell. Flax is a natural plant fiber, and when turned into a composite, it becomes lightweight, strong, and environmentally friendly.
These cases weigh just over 6 lbs. While we typically consider a violin case “light” if it’s under 5 lbs, a case that weighs around 6 lbs, isn’t made from carbon fiber, and costs less than $200 is impressive! Many cases in this price range weigh over 7 lbs—unless they’re made of foam.
Flax fiber composites offer excellent thermal insulation, helping protect the violin from temperature fluctuations.
Imagine sitting on a bench on a hot summer day: one bench is made from flax fibers, the other is metal. You’ll definitely feel the heat more on the metal one!
These cases have a unique look, setting them apart from most hard or canvas-covered violin cases.
Many violin cases have sheet music pouches the same width as the case itself. However, these cases feature extra-large, expandable music pouches that are wider than the case. This is perfect for musicians with large orchestra folders.
And, the entire sheet music pouch is detachable! Simply unbuckle it when you don’t need it.
The Velcro neck cushion is movable, allowing it to accommodate violins ranging from 3/4 to full size. This makes it an excellent choice for students.
Many parents buy this case for their child playing a 3/4-size violin, knowing the child will soon switch to a full-size instrument. No need to buy another case!
It’s also great for musicians with violins that have unique dimensions, such as longer or shorter necks and bodies.
