Molto Classic Oblong Violin Case

I'm impressed with how light this case is. It has many similar features to my previous case by Carlisle, only the Carlisle one felt very bulky when carrying it which is why I had to buy a separate case (not the Molto) for travel. I bought the Molto case to replace my Carlisle and I am very pleased with the purchase. I use a large shoulder rest that is not collapsible and this case is able to accommodate it just fine. I also like that the neck brace is movable to adjust to varying sizes of instruments. Overall great quality while being lightweight and comfortable to carry.

That should be a given, but it wasn't the "case" with my old violin case. I've finally discovered that the key to getting the right violin set-up is to get the initial gap between the chest and jaw addressed with the chinrest height first- and then modify the set-up with an appropriate shoulder rest (if needed). Once I installed the new raised chinrest on my violin, I could no longer close the cover on my old case. The height of my new chinrest (measured from the bottom of my violin) is 8 cm and I can close the Molto Classic with no issues. This was the main reason for my purchase, but I am very happy with the quality and style as well.

I recently purchased this case for a slightly oversized violin.

Pros:

Everything feels very solid (hinges, latches, attachments, seal).

Case is spacious and adjustable, and fits my orthotic Bonmusica shoulder rest.

Case sits upright when open, even without a fiddle in it.

At least on its first outing, crammed into a full car for a cross-country trip, it was very scratch/grime resistant.

Nice bow holders and comfortable outside handle.

These shoulder straps are the nicest I've ever seen as a stock accessory for a case. They are padded, and obviously higher quality straps with little retainer loops for the clips. This is a big deal for me as I use them often.

Cons:

Though the case aired out its chemical smell in about a day, the accessory bag continues to off gas in a very stinky way. Depending on your tolerance for smells it may take a few weeks before you wantto use it.

The interior fabric is some kind of plush that doesn't have a luxe look/feel and seems like something that might not wear well. But so far, so good.

Overall, it's a light, protective and solid feeling case that fits a variety of sizes. I don't notice the wider width at all during use and it is obviously useful in creating the interior space! It's easy to carry by handle or straps.

The customer service and shipping was awesome! They helped me determine which case could accommodate my instrument, my "stuff", and my preferences and they were spot on. I'm really happy with my purchase.
